Elephant has recently completed the installation of a 4 x 2 video wall, lighting control, and video conferencing systems for the Immigration Department Boundary Liaison Command Centre and Meeting Room at the Heung Yuen Wai Boundary Control Point / Liantang Port. The Control Point opened first solely for cross-boundary trucks in August 2020, then in February 2023, with the lifting of COVID-19 control measures in Mainland China, opened to passenger traffic as well. In preparation for high cross-boundary traffic volumes during the Labour Day holiday in May, the Customs, Police, and Immigration Departments as well as other related departments established and activated an inter-departmental joint command centre to monitor the situation at all land border control points. They will also maintain close contact with their counterparts in the Mainland to take timely response measures.
The Heung Yuen Wai Boundary Control Point / Liantang Port is the seventh land-based control point between Hong Kong and Shenzhen, and is the first land boundary control point that offers “direct access by passengers and vehicles”. This Boundary Control Point greatly shortens the travelling time between Hong Kong, Shenzhen and eastern Guangdong, thereby facilitating the smooth and efficient operation of cross-boundary logistics; furthering the co-operation and development of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, eastern Guangdong and neighbouring provinces; enhancing the “one-hour living circle” of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao; and providing extremely favourable infrastructure connectivity for the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
