Description
Opened in 2001, Hong Kong Central Library (HKCL) is the largest public library, and is the flagship library of the Hong Kong Public Libraries (HKPL).The 12-storey high building occupies a gross area of 9,400 square metres (101,000 sq ft) with a floor area of 33,800 square metres (364,000 sq ft). The Library’s collections amount to one fifth of HKPL System; or 2.3 million items out of the total 12.1 million items. Over 150 local and overseas newspapers and periodical titles are also available for the public. Moreover, an adult library and a children’s library, a multimedia library, a computer and information centre, self-service book borrowing and renewal service, self-service return service are also available at the library.
The refurbished PA system now runs digitally on the building’s IT network, and enables the end users to broadcast text-to-voice messages across different areas of the building at set times.
